Tuesday Sports Report - 02/21/12

(WAOW) - The boys' and girls' high school hockey playoffs heat up as semifinal action hit the ice Tuesday night.

For the last two seasons, Wausau West has represented central Wisconsin at the state hockey tournament and the warriors came away with their first-ever state championship last year. But Tuesday, Mosinee was trying to end West's run in the sectional semifinals.

The Warriors came out firing, however, scoring three times in the first six minutes and they never looked back, winning 4-2.

In Northland Pines, the Eagles scored early and often, beating Lakeland 6-1.

On the girls' side, the central Wisconsin storm took down Marshfield, 4-1, while Northland Pines beat Point-Rapids, 2-0.

Tuesday was also a big night for girls' hoops. Adams-Friendship entered their game with Wild Rose 20-0 and ranked fourth in division three. The Green Devils hit just one field goal in the first quarter, but they came back for a 37-30 win.

In Owen, the Blackhawks took on unbeaten and division four, second-ranked Neillsville. The game was close throughout, but Neillsville pulled away for a 42-30 win.
