OCONTO FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- A fire caused extensive damage to a church school in Oconto Falls, canceling classes on Wednesday.
Fire investigators are expected at St. Anthony Parish School to look for a cause of a fire that sent billowing smoke clouds and flames through the roof Tuesday night. Sixteen-year-old Vince Enneper says he was walking home from the library and spotted the fire. The teen says he pried open a door and grabbed a fire extinguisher, but the flames were too intense.
Fire Chief Tim Magnin says the fire quickly spread, igniting ceiling tiles. Area fire departments were summoned to help.
WLUK-TV reports that although the school is closed, the adjacent church will hold Ash Wednesday services.
