UPDATE: Trial date set for man charged in gruesome murder of father

UPDATE - On June 12, 2012 a trial date was set for the Shawano County man charged in the murder of his father.

Joshua Johnson's trial is scheduled to begin on October 30, 2012.  It's scheduled to run seven days.

A Shawano County man is now officially charged in the murder of his father.

20 year old Joshua Johnson faces charges of first degree intentional homicide and domestic abuse.

He is accused in the death of his father, 53 year old Donald Johnson.

According to court records, Joshua Johnson called 911 the morning of February 21. Investigators say he told dispatch that "the deed was done," and he had killed his father.

Sheriff's deputies say he remained on the phone with dispatch until they arrived on scene and was immediately taken into custody.

Court records show Joshua Johnson told dispatch he had been planning his father's death and had shot him with a 20 gauge shot gun.

Court records also reveal that Johnson is accused of beating his father, using the gun, a knife, and a long handle from the wood stove.

Court documents say Donald Johnson died as a result of the beating.

Sheriff's department officials says they did have contact with Joshua Johnson the night before the murder.

They say the suspect called 911, but won't reveal another other details.

However, sheriff's deputies say Johnson did not make any threats. A captain from the Shawano County Sheriff's Department says the 911 call was handled appropriately, and there is no longer an internal investigation.

Newsline 9 does have a crew at Joshua Johnson's court appearance. We will update this story as more details become available.
