Bernice D. Skibba

Bernice D. Skibba, 86, of Stevens Point, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at the Portage County Health Care Center.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1925, in Stevens Point, to the late Walter and Regina (Weronke) Burant and attended Madison Elementary School, Maria High School and graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing Academy in Marshfield. On Sep. 25, 1950, her marriage to Claude J. Skibba took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. Claude died on Jan. 18, 2000.

Bernice worked as a registered nurse in surgery at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society for over 50 years and she enjoyed playing cards, family sporting events, helping at church, fishing for northerns, baking, cooking, canning and making mission rosaries.

Survivors include her children, Kathy (Harry) Ehr, Barbara (David) Kurszewski and Arthur (Lisa) Skibba all of Custer, Robert (Marcia) Skibba of Amherst Junction, Paul (friend, Linda Bembenek) Skibba and William (Mary) Skibba both of Rosholt, Kristeen (Tom) Carne and Peter (Rebecca) Skibba both of Stevens Point; sisters, Florence (Dennis) Simonis of Rosholt, and Janet (friend, Al Kowalski) Chojnacki of Stevens Point; brother, Nick Burant of Rosholt; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Burant, Irene Skibba and Lauretta Lehman; brother-in-law, Fred Skibba; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary; infant son, David; brothers, Walter and Ted Burant; and sister, Harriet Domaszek.

The family thanks the staff at North Haven Homes in Stevens Point for their loving care of Bernice, as well as the staff at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital and the Portage County Health Care Center.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia with the Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. Sunday at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 2nd Street, Stevens Point, and again on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time for Mass.
