Portage Co. Sheriff's Department: Woman took deputy on high speed chase


A 20-year-old Phillips woman took Portage County deputies on a 12-mile high speed chase Saturday. 

The Portage County Sheriff's Department report that a Deputy saw a car on the side of State Highway 66 near Airport Road around 3:15 a.m. When he tried to pull over to investigate the driver took off, according to a press release. 

Deputy John White reports that he followed suspect Kayla Skotzke, sometimes exceeding 110 miles per hour according to the release. Skotzke crossed the centerline several times, even driving into the ditch. The chase ended when Skotzke skidded off the road and hit a tree near Kranski Road in the Town of Sharon, according to the Sheriff's Department. 

Skotzke was not injured. 

Deputies arrested and recommended charges against Skotzke. She will appear in Portage County Court Monday facing fleeing, OWI (1st), operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration and possession of a falsified ID charges.
