UN reports Ivory Coast post-poll violence

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) -- The United Nations says unidentified gunmen fired on a convoy carrying ballot boxes after a legislative poll and that attackers hit an electoral commission office.

The U.N. said in a statement Monday the attacks happened after Sunday's election for 12 legislative openings. They reported no deaths.

The elections were held in response to reported irregularities during a December legislative election.

Ivory Coast was plunged into violence after a disputed 2010 presidential election.

Former strongman Laurent Gbagbo awaits trial at The Hague over accusations that his forces committed murder and rape after losing the presidential vote.

Prosecutors say about 3,000 people died in violence by both sides after Gbagbo refused to concede defeat.
