CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's government is putting 19 cleaning and personal hygiene products under price controls.
Price restrictions already are in place for dozens of basic foodstuffs and other consumer goods as the government tries to curb inflation that ran at 27.6 percent during 2011.
Venezuela has had the highest inflation in the Americas for six years running.
Vice President Elias Jaua says officials expect the new restrictions to bring down prices on soap, shampoo and detergents among other products by as much as 25 percent.
The new price restrictions were announced on Monday.
