Rhinelander physical therapist enters U.S. Senate race

A Rhinelander physical therapist has jumped into the Republican U.S. Senate race.

Kip Smith made his official announcement Tuesday. He's a graduate of D.C. Everest High School and has worked in health care in Rhinelander for 17 years.

Smith spoke to a few supporters in Wausau. He told them the country needs to come together and mend its divisions. He says he's the candidate to help make that happen.

"We need to get our house in order, and we need to send real, common-sense Americans--citizen legislators--back to Washington to speak for us, and who have our best interests at heart," said Smith.

Smith joins a crowded Republican field including former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, and former Rep. Mark Neumann.

Rep. Tammy Baldwin is running as a Democrat.
