William F. Gould


William F. Gould, 88 of Wausau, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Colonial Manor, Wausau.

He was born on October 9, 1923 in Merrill, son of the late Leo and Dorothy (Cortright) Gould.   He graduated from Merrill High School.  He served during WWII in the US Air Force from 1942 until 1945. William married Lorraine Haller on September 8, 1947.  He worked at Wausau Paper Mill for many years in maintenance, retiring in 1985.

As a young man he spent his summers at Big Bearskin Lake with his friend, Bill Jenson.  He loved all sports, especially golf, baseball, and bowling.  In later years, he enjoyed going ice fishing with his daughter, Mary and her husband Jim. He was a charter member of St. Anne's Catholic Church where he was also an usher.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, Wausau; daughter, Mary (James) Treu, Wausau; sons, William (Mary Rubens) Gould, Jr., Green Bay, Patrick (Lynn) Gould, Bella Vista, AR, Thomas (Janey) Gould, Wausau, and James (Sue) Gould, Wausau; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Jim, Doug, Robert, and 2 sisters, Gayle and June.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Church of St. Anne, 700 West Bridge St. Wausau.  The Rev. Steven J. Brice will officiate.  Inurnment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park,  Wausau.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin O'Connell of UW Health for his compassionate care, the staff of Colonial Manor, residents Shorty and Laverne who watched over him, and Marty for bringing him communion while he was at home.
