Injuries reported as windy weather whips Missouri

BRANSON, Mo. (AP) -- Injuries and significant damage have been reported after a line of possible tornadoes moved across the Midwest.

Especially hard-hit early Wednesday were areas in southwest Missouri, including Branson, Lebanon and Buffalo.

In Branson, Taney County Sheriff Jimmie Russell says there are injuries, though he didn't know how many or how severe. He said searchers are going house to house.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Griffin says the apparent tornado moved through downtown Branson, heavily damaging the city's famous theaters. Griffin says numerous injuries have also been reported in Buffalo, where the storm passed through a mobile home park.

Elsewhere, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback declared a state of emergency late Tuesday after an apparent tornado struck Harveyville.
