MARSHFIELD (WAOW) - The BloodCenter of Wisconsin and Marshfield Columbus High School have teamed up to hold a blood drive in honor of Staff Sgt. Joe Altmann, who died while serving our country in Afghanistan.

The blood drive is scheduled for March 15 inside the Our Lady of Peace gym in Marshfield.  It starts at 8am and runs until 1pm.

Altmann was a 2003 graduate of Columbus High School.  His mother, Janice Altmann, says Joe was a strong believer in blood donation and encouraged his family and friends to donate.

According to the BloodCenter press release, anyone 16 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. The entire process takes about an hour and all blood types are needed. Donors should bring a photo ID. Appointments to donate can be made by calling BloodCenter at (715) 387-4990. However, walk-ins are encouraged as well.
