Eino A. Suomi age 86, formerly of Brooklyn, CT and Stevens Point, WI passed away Thursday morning March 1, 2012 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. Per family wishes no public funeral services will be held.
Eino was born July 5, 1925 in Mt. Hope, NJ, the son of Sulo and Lempi (Toiknen) Suomi. After finishing High School, Eino entered the United States Army on May 17, 1946. He served his country as a Tec 5 in the 235 Army Postal Unit at Camp Stoneman, CA. He earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. After his honorable discharge on October 27, 1947, he owned and operated a poultry business in Brooklyn, CT until 1962. On May 20, 1950 he married Greta Maria Vidjeskog in Canterbury, CT. From 1962 until his retirement in 1995, Eino was a foreman for a construction firm in CT. In 1995 he and Greta moved to New Port Ritchey, FL. The couple resided there in retirement until Greta passed in 2001. Eino then moved to Stevens Point to be with his son Rory and his family. In 2008 he moved to King to be with friends who also served their country. In his earlier years Eino was a professional boxer, enjoyed golf, was an avid New York Football Giant fan, but mostly he loved his family and being with his grandchildren.
Eino is survived by his 3 children: Rory (Joanne) Suomi, Stevens Point; Ailene (Richard) Martin, Oconomowoc; Gale Suomi, San Diego, CA. 3 grandchildren: Samara, Erik, and Kari. 2 great grandchildren: Brenden and Bryce and a good friend Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Greta, and his granddaughter Jolene Suomi.
