(WAOW) - Friday night marked the busiest day of the winter sports season, with four different state events competing.
The Wausau West hockey team fell behind Brookfield Central-East 1-0 in their state semifinal matchup, but quickly responded and rolled to a 6-3 win to move to the state championship.
On the girls' side, the central Wisconsin Storm were seeking their second straight trip to the title game. The Storm jumped in front early and came away with a 4-1 win.
On the wrestling mats, top-ranked and defending champ Wisconsin Rapids got by Arrowhead 35-22 in a rematch of last year's state championship.
The Raiders will meet second-ranked Wausau West in Saturday's semifinals. The Warriors took down Franklin, 62-11.
In Wisconsin Rapids, the individual state gymnastics meet kicked off. Several area gymnasts competed. Results were not available at the time Newsline 9 went to air.
Boys' basketball regionals also continued Friday. Auburndale ran away from Crandon in a division four matchup. The Apaches will meet Amherst, which took down Wild Rose 43-30.
In division one, top-seeded DC Everest rolled to a win over Wausau West. The Evergreens will face Wausau East, which beat Marshfield 53-49 on Friday.
