WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW)--Business is somersaulting into Wisconsin Rapids this weekend. The city is hosting the state gymnastics tournament.
Tourism officials estimate more than 1,800 people from across the state are visiting Central Wisconsin this weekend.
"They help out a number of businesses," says AJ Frels, Executive Director, Wisconsin Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Obviously, hotels, gas stations, restaurants. You know, people don't think about pharmaceutical needs and all the other things they spend their dollars on while they are here visiting."
Many hotels were sold out weeks in advance for this weekend, and some hotels are already booked for next year.
"We have a lot of pride in running the meet," said Charlie Martin, Meet Coordinator. "This is our 31st time that we have run the meet. This community takes a lot of pride in putting together big events."
Tournament officials say more than 50 teams from across the state will compete this weekend.
