Abbotsford Fire Chief Jody Apfelbeck says that the firefighter who died fighting a fire in Abbotsford was also a Marathon County Sheriff's Deputy. Deputy Sheriff Jamison Kampmeyer and two other firefighters were trapped inside Abby Theatre Sunday as they were fighting the blaze. Kampmeyer died inside; the two others were treated and released.
Apfelbeck says that 50 firefighters from area stations were on the scene Sunday. Two others were treated and released after being injured by falling debris.
The Department of Criminal Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the fire scene for a cause. The DCI is involved any time there is a fire-related death. There is no fixed timeline for the investigation.
Kampmeyer was a father of three young children.
