MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -
Drivers on Highway 29 in western Marathon County spotted a black bear sitting in an embankment just off the road.
Marathon County Sheriff's officers say the bear appeared to be protecting something. They say they ended up leaving the bear alone. Officers also draped a covering over a nearby culvert to give the bear some shelter.
Sheriff's officers worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to handle the situation.
