Gov Walker announces jobs training plan

SCHOFIELD (WAOW) --  Governor Walker stopped in Schofield Tuesday to announce a new jobs training plan.

The new program is called Wisconsin Workforce Partnership Grant. It includes a three $4 million pilot program to boost skills training for manufacturing jobs that are available now.

The Governor said the hope is to strengthen the pipeline between technical colleges and employers offering advanced manufacturing jobs. Specifically, the grants will support the rapid development of degree or certificate programs that produce graduates who can meet specific employer needs.

"This helps us make the connection particularly in companies like this that have advanced manufacturing and need workers. We have a great technical college and this allows us to further those partnerships," Gov. Walker said.

Schools and businesses must partner on their application to the Wisconsin Covenant Foundation for up to $750,000 in funding for each grant over three years. The foundation will select award application winners based on how many jobs will be created and how aggressive the employer.
