Athletes of the Week: Central Wisconsin Storm

The Central Wisconsin Storm girls hockey team is your 2012 state champion.  But getting there was no easy task.  

After three years of reaching the State Tournament, the Storm was able to send out its seniors on a high note.  They're so ecstatic, it's been hard to part with their medals, even for a short while.  

"I don't think I've taken off my medal yet," said Storm senior Myranda Hayes.  "I don't want to take it off, I don't want this feeling to go away."  

"I didn't take it off all day Saturday and Sunday, and wore it to school on Monday," said Storm defender Rachel Babiarz. 

Leading the team is Dennis Drake, the 2012 coach of the year.  Drake helped a team struggling to find its identity in the first half of the season to become a team that went unbeaten in the final 17 games of the year.  

"It's a team award," Drake said.  "And it doesn't hurt to have the best team in the state."
