WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Leaders at Northcentral Technical College are putting together a scholarship in Jamison Kampmeyer's honor.
The Criminal Justice Club has been collecting money for the project. Kampmeyer attended the NTC Police Recruit Academy himself. He later worked as an adjunct instructor at the college -- while serving as a Marathon County Sheriff's deputy and volunteer Colby firefighter.
"We thought it would be neat every year for someone to hear about a hero from the community and understand where that money's coming from and why that scholarship was developed," said Andrew Kleppe, who is a criminal justice instructor at NTC.
These plans are still in the works, but organizers said the scholarship would be open to NTC students who are a part of the criminal justice program.
