Wis. man fined for crash that killed unborn child

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- A Waupaca County man who pleaded guilty to causing a head-on crash that killed an unborn child will be fined but won't face prison time.

Twenty-three-year-old Joshua J. Ozment of Fremont was convicted in January. Prosecutors say he was traveling about 70 mph in a 55-mph zone in 2009 when he slammed into another vehicle.

At his sentencing Friday, Ozment said, "I just feel really sorry. I don't know what to say." He held his head in his hands and cried.

An Oshkosh Northwestern report  says the prosecutor and defense attorney both recommended a fine as an appropriate sentence. Judge Barbara H. Key agreed, noting Ozment's genuine remorse and lack of a prior record.

Online court records say Ozment owes a total of about $1,450.
