Wis. posts partial child care inspection data

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin is now posting the results of state inspections of child care centers online to help parents searching for providers.

The information includes health and safety violations, and corrective measures.

But the Wisconsin State Journal reports that Wisconsin still holds back details about the most egregious violations -- those that lead to fines. Online, only the date of a fine is shown, not its amount or the circumstances. Consumers must call a state office to get that information.

Anneliese Sheahan, president of a child care providers union, says this uneven approach can lead to a distorted picture of which centers are truly safe.

The newspaper says a spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Families did not directly respond to its questions about why the website does not list fines.
