Langlade Co. Sheriff: Marijuana charges are only one part of investigation

LANGLADE COUNTY (WAOW) -- More serious charges could be in the works in connection with a drug investigation involving several area educators. Newsline 9 spoke with Langlade County Sheriff William Greening on Monday. He said even though marijuana-related charges have been filed in this case already, that's just one side of the investigation.

An ongoing drug investigation has shocked the Northwoods communities in Antigo and Merrill. Six educators -- as well as five others -- have been charged in connection with a marijuana drug ring. Now, Greening said more charges could be on the horizon.

He said he couldn't get into specifics and declined to go on camera, but Greening did confirm his department is looking into filing more serious drug charges against some who have already been charged. He said they are also investigating more people possibly connected to this case -- but did not release the names of who those people are.

On Monday, three people involved pleaded "not guilty" to marijuana possession charges in Langlade County court. Anthony Crabb did not appear in court, but his lawyer entered a "not guilty" plea. Crabb works as a substitute teacher in Merrill. Joseph Adams just resigned as a special ed teacher in Antigo. Authorities said Chris Nicholson is also connected to the case. All three are scheduled to be back in court next month.

Four others also connected with this case were supposed to be in court on Monday. Their appearances were rescheduled for later this month.
