New charges for Readstown Police Chief Shay Larson

VIROQUA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - New charges were filed against Readstown Police Chief Shay Larson Monday morning in Vernon County Circuit Court.

The two charges are 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and Intimidation of a Victim. Both counts are felonies and carry a total maximum of 50 years in prison.

The charges came to light last week during testimony at Larson's first appearance in Vernon County Circuit Court.  Sheriff's Investigator Matt Sutton testified that while acting as Police Chief, Larson inappropriately touched a 14-year-old boy.  The youth was doing community service work at the time.

According to the criminal complaint, the boy told Investigator Sutton that on several occasions during the summer of 2011, Larson grabbed or fondled the boy.  The complaint states that following the incidents, Larson told the boy that if he ever told anyone about what happened, Larson would find the boy and hurt him.

The boy came forward after seeing news reports of Larson's arrest and court appearance.

Larson was charged with eight counts Thursday including misconduct in office, 4th degree sexual assault, and disorderly conduct.

At the end of Monday's appearance, Judge Michael Rosborough continued Larson's $20,000 signature bond.
