Assembly to take up home brew bill

A bill that would make critical changes to Wisconsin's homebrew guidelines is up for a vote in the Legislature.

The state Assembly was scheduled to vote on the measure Tuesday. The proposal would allow home brewers to make beer or wine outside their home.

Current state law prohibits home brewers from transporting any beer or wine they make at home. The Senate passed the bill in February.

Current law technically makes tasting events and competitions illegal. Several homebrew groups say the current law is archaic and hurts their beloved hobby. Several opposing groups say the proposed bill ignores state regulations on alcohol distribution.

The Legislature is scheduled to adjourn Thursday.
