Assembly to vote on lifting Family Care cap

One of the last bills the Wisconsin state Assembly plans to take up this year would lift an enrollment cap on the popular Family Care program.

The state Senate last month unanimously approved the measure. The Assembly was taking it up Tuesday after delaying a vote last week.

The bill would allow Family Care to add new participants past its July 2011 enrollment level. It's a reversal to the state budget signed by Gov. Scott Walker that placed a cap at 43,000 people. The federal Centers for Medicaid and Medicare in December ordered Walker to lift the cap on the program that keeps elderly and disabled people out of nursing homes.

Once passed by the Assembly, the bill would head to Walker for his signature.
