Warmer weather opens golf courses

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW)--As temperatures heat up, golf clubs are coming out. With spring like weather, several golf courses in our area are opening up, including Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

The warmer is scored a hole-in-one with golfers. John Dinson stepped up to the tee for an afternoon of golf. He says playing in the middle of March is, "almost like a birthday present," Dinson said.

Dinson swung his club for the first time this season.

"Been looking forward to this since October," Dinson said.

Owners at the course say this is the second earliest they've opened in the last 16 years.

"We are just happy to be open and if we continue like this, we are hoping to have a great year," Ridges course owner Todd Goska said.

Ridges saw its first customers on Sunday.

"If you're a golf lover, you can't wait till the season opens. It feels fantastic," Dinson said.

Like Dinson, other golfers say they aren't complaining.

"Feels a little different, but it's something I could get used to," Wisconsin Rapids resident Peter Kalmon said.

Owners of the Ridges say this weekend is shaping up to be a great one.

"You're going to have golf, you're going to have high school basketball, you're going to have NCAA basketball. I think a lot of guys are going to tell their wives they can do the yard work next week," Goska said.

With warmer weather ahead, Ridges says it's ready for its first full weekend.
