D.C. Everest video aims to lend a helping hand

WESTON (WAOW)-- When students at D.C. Everest High School students heard about a prom contest run by the pop country music group, Lady Antebellum, they decided to enter.

The contest asks that contestants show their community show their school or community pride. Lady Antebellum has promised to play at the winner's prom.

The Everest video shows their pride in their school and community, but goes beyond that.  The students said they were so moved by the devastating losses in Henryville, Indiana after a deadly tornado hit the town, they decided to dedicate the video to their counterparts in Henryville. The storm system flattened the high school.  The video ends with a message, asking Lady Antebellum to select Henryville.

The students have offered to host the prom for their Indiana counterparts and have also invited Henryville students to come to the D.C.E. prom on April 21.

Thousand of people have viewed the video on You Tube (www.youtube.com). You can also find a link at the D.C. Everest District web site: http://www.dce.k12.wi.us/. The school needs as many views as possible by March 20.

The Everest students are also expanding their efforts with fundraising. The students are selling wristbands that say "Everest <3 Henryville... Own the Night."  They hope to raise money to rebuild the Henryville library. Books and office supplies can be dropped off at the Senior High between March 16-March 21. They are also collecting prom dresses.
