RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW)-- Sunday was the last chance for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes at Granite Peak. Officials say warm weather is melting snow on the runs, forcing them to close almost three weeks earlier than normal.
Temperatures topped 78 degrees on Sunday and skiers wore t-shirts and shorts on the hill.
"I've done pond skimming and ridden across water on my snowboard before. but nothing like this. this is just a full day of riding in shorts and tee shirts," one snowboarder told Newsline 9.
Officials said despite the warm weather this weekend, around 64 runs were open to close out the season.
