WESTON (WAOW)--A Weston girl will carry the Olympic torch leading up to the start of the summer games in London, England.
Organizers for the London games released the names of many of the 8,000 people who will carry the torch. Among them is 13-year old Peyton Medick of Weston. She is scheduled to carry the torch July 9 in Aylesbury, England. You can find her story on the games website. http://www.london2012.com/games/olympic-torch-relay/torchbearers/
The selection committee says Peyton was chosen, because of her volunteer efforts to help the hungry. 5 years ago, Peyton started an organization called Peyton's Promise. She says it has collected nearly 60 tons of food and raised $40,000 dollars to help fill food pantry programs in our area.
Peyton says she is thrilled to travel to England, "I can't imagine what it's going to be like. It is so neat because it's an event for the whole world. It is just unbelievable."
The torch will travel across England starting May 19 until July 27th, which is when the games open.
