Former Antigo principal pleads not guilty to drug charges

LANGLADE COUNTY (WAOW) -- A former Antigo elementary school principal -- and high school football coach -- has pleaded not guilty to seven felony drug charges. John Lund made an appearance in Langlade County court. He faces seven charges related to making and selling marijuana.

Lund resigned from his jobs with the Antigo School District in January. He is one of more than a dozen people authorities said are involved with these marijuana-related crimes. And the Langlade County sheriff said the investigation is not over yet.

Lund's lawyer did not want to go on camera -- but he said they plan to work hard on the case before a trial begins.

So far -- eleven people have been charged. That includes teachers and administrators from Antigo and Merrill. Three of them pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges last week. Others are scheduled for court appearances later this month.

Meantime, the legal counsel for the Antigo School District said they're continuing to investigate one employee, Dan Witman. He's currently on administrative leave from his duties as an elementary PE teacher. Witman is one of five Antigo employees connected with this case. Three -- including Lund, have resigned. They've all been charged. A fourth has been punished and is back to work. The counsel said they're no longer investigating the others because they aren't working for the district anymore.

The Langlade County Sheriff's department did not talk with us on camera on Monday. But last week, the sheriff said the marijuana charges are just one part of this investigation. They expect more charges to come.
