STEVENS POINT (WAOW)-- City council members voted unanimously Monday night to approve funding to restore McDill Pond. Whiting village leaders discovered a leak in the McDill Pond Dam last June.
Now, the Portage County Board of Supervisors must approve funding for plans to move forward. Leaders will take up that vote at a meeting Tuesday night.
The cost to repair the dam is estimated at more than $600,000 dollars. The City of Stevens Point, The Lake District and Portage County will split repair costs if county leaders approve funding.
Mayor Andrew Halverson told Newsline 9 he hopes funding is approved, so the pond can be restored soon.
Paul Kloos died after a manure pit exploded Friday morning, according to the Marathon County Sheriff's Department.
