HAVANA (AP) -- A lawyer for a Cuban agent serving three years of supervised release in the U.S. says the agent is pleased by a ruling letting him travel to the island to visit his ailing brother.
Phil Horowitz is a Miami-based criminal defense attorney who has represented Rene Gonzalez since 1998.
He says Gonzalez is "happy he's going to be able to see his brother," who has lung cancer.
Horowitz said Tuesday it's not clear when Gonzalez might make the trip, but the goal is "as soon as possible."
Cuban authorities have been quiet about the Florida federal judge's decision except for a short, matter-of-fact article in state media. The case of Gonzalez and the other four members of the so-called Cuban Five is a cause celebre for the government.
