Harold D. "Hal" Roberts

of Stevens Point died Monday March 19, 2012 at the Stevens Point Care Center.  He was 95 years old.  Hal was married to Nancy Roberts for 54 years (1941 to 1995), He was born on July 26, 1916 in Madison Wisconsin.

He Graduated from Madison West High School 1934, University of Wisconsin,  Madison  in 1940 with a Masters Degree and was working on a doctorate when World War II and five years of military service intervened.  He was stationed in Panama and in the Pacific area at the end of the war.  He Served in WWII as a Captain in the Army medical corps

 Preceded in death by parents Ray and Louvia Roberts, sister Mary Lou Jensen and wife Nancy (Mahin) Roberts

He founded Roberts Irrigation Co Inc serving the needs of Agricultural Irrigation throughout the state of Wisconsin in the early 1950s in Black River Falls WI.  He moved the family and company to Stevens Point in 1958. 

In college he was a Member of Sigma Nu fraternity.  An active "birder" he was a member and former president of the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology. For many years he and Nancy edited The Passenger Pigeon magazine.  He was also a long time member of the Elks.  Very active in Agriculture he was inducted into the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association hall of fame in 1994.  He was recognized for outstanding service to the Wisconsin Cranberry Growers Association in 1985.  He received recognition for outstanding support to Agriculture by the Agri-Business Committee of the chamber of commerce in 1990.

Survived  by his children: Paul (Dawn) Roberts of Junction City, Ann (Doug) Hayner of Omaha NE, Jane (Wellington) Ayensu of Virginia Beach VA, and Susan Roberts of Virginia Beach VA; grandson Hal Roos of Texarkana AR, sister Velma Byrd of Moundsville WV, nieces and nephews

Hal enjoyed a long term friendship with the late Violet Jurgella for many years.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home at 703 Second St. in Stevens Point, WI.  Rev. Dee Webber will officiate.  Visiatation will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday at the funeral home and also from 9:30 am until the services Saturday morning at the funeral home.  For on line condolences please visit www.pisarskifuneralhome.com
