Career of Portage County Dispatcher ends after 32 years

PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW)--After more than three decades, Portage County Dispatcher Geri Glodowski is retiring.

"It's been 32 years. It's a pretty long time to be in law enforcement. Did the numbers, put them all down and it was time to leave," Glodowski said.

Glodowski says the job has not been easy.

"There's a lot of stress in this job. Being able to get away from that, it will be great," said Glodowski, referring to the future.

As you can imagine, throughout the years, she's handled quite a variety of calls.

"We've had people who are delivering babies and you're talking the husband into delivering his baby. It's great when you start hearing that baby cry, it's fantastic," Glodowski said.

"It's going to be a big hole. She was here from the beginning," said Glodowski's supervisor James Grubba. "There's no one that goes back as far as she did. It's going to be some big shoes to replace," he continued.

And as for Glodowski's fondest memory--"Meeting my husband. I ended up meeting one of the deputies here and I ended up marrying him and we ended up having a child together," she said.

Glodowski says she's not sure what's next, but that she's excited for the journey.

"It's a whole new adventure out there. I could write a book. I could retire and spend time with my grandchildren. Who knows," Glodowski said.
