WAUSAU (WAOW)-- Last week, Newsline 9 introduced you to a group of D.C. Everest students trying to help an Indiana High School devastated by a tornado.
The D.C. Everest students entered a video contest. The winner would get the pop-country music group, Lady Antebellum, to play at prom. But instead of pushing for their own school, D.C. Everest asked the country stars to play for Henryville High School in Indiana. That school was heavily damaged by a tornado earlier this month.
"I got chills," said D.C. Everest junior, Brandon Dively. "It was pretty incredible to hear they were rushed out of school, and that their original plan was to stay in school until two principals said no, we're sending them home."
Late Tuesday, Lady Antebellum revealed the winner... Henryville.
On Wednesday, D.C. Everest students met their peers at Henryville High School for the first time, via skype.
"Hopefully people will take from this that teens aren't just the people you see on tv who are laying around and not caring about the world," said D.C Everest junior Lucas Gajewski "We are driven and when we see a difference we will try to make one."
The students at D.C Everest say they will continue to help their peers in Indiana. They are raising money, and hope to visit the school in the future.
