Illinois features high-profile congressional races

CHICAGO (AP) -- Republicans have emerged from Illinois' contentious primary election vowing to charge toward November and defend their party's gains from 2010.

But Democrats say it'll be an uphill battle with a new congressional map drawn by Democrats that whittles the state into districts favoring them.

Republicans lost one seat in the state's congressional delegation Tuesday with a incumbent matchup. Veteran Congressman Don Manzullo lost to first-year Congressman Adam Kinzinger.

The most high-profile races solidified for November include contests between tea party firebrand Congressman Joe Walsh and war veteran Tammy Duckworth, longtime GOP Congresswoman Judy Biggert and former Congressman Bill Foster and the race for the state's only open congressional seat.
