Minnesotans reminded to plan for severe weather

Posted:

ST. PAUL, MN (AP) -- Public safety officials say Monday's confirmed tornado is a reminder for Minnesotans to get ready for severe weather.

The state Homeland Security and Emergency Management division is urging Minnesotans to review their severe weather plans and to take steps to keep their families safe.

Officials say Minnesotans should watch the weather, check the Internet, listen to the media and use a NOAA weather radio.

Monday's tornado struck the Elysian (el-EE'-zhun) area in south-central Minnesota and was rated EF0, with winds of 80-85 mph. The storm damaged trees and sheds, but no one was hurt.

The National Weather Service says it was the second-earliest tornado ever recorded in Minnesota. The earliest was a tornado recorded March 18, 1968, near Truman.
