AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team split a pair of games on Thursday afternoon, falling 3-2 in game one against St. Olaf College before rebounding with a 3-2 victory in game two at Lake Myrtle Fields.

Scoreless through three and a third, St Olaf plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull in front, 2-0.

The Pointers answered with a run in the top of the fifth when Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Bobby Gregorich (Plover, WI/SPASH).

St. Olaf tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead on the Pointers, a run that proved to be the game-winner.

In the seventh, Casey Barnes (Mequon, WI/Homestead) doubled to right-center, scoring Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy), but St. Olaf ended the threat to steal game one, 3-2.

Max Frederick (New London, WI/New London) took the loss, throwing 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out five.

In game two, the Pointers got on the board first, plating a run in the bottom of the second inning when Brady Clark led off the inning with a triple and later scored on a Jimmy Coady (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) groundout.

St. Olaf retook the lead in the third, tagging starter Cam Seidl (Appleton, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) for a pair of RBI singles to push in front 2-1.

The Pointers answered back in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game on a Barnes double that drove in Clay Giese (Plover, WI/SPASH). In the sixth, the Pointers plated the go-ahead run when Gregorich singled and drove in Ryan Schilter (West Bend, WI/West).

Reliever Ryan Iverson (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire North) shut the Oles down in the seventh, earning the victory, his second of the season. Iverson pitched two innings, allowing just one hit in relief of Seidl.
