MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) - Hundreds of runners took to the streets of down town Wausau today.

For many of the hundreds of runners who took to the streets of down town Wausau, the Bulls Falls Brewery Honor Flight Run was more than just a race.

"I'm running in the Honor Flight Run, because its a really good cause," said George Peretz.

These runners were raising money to send veterans to Washington D.C. This is the race's third year.

"They really like to support our veterans," said Jim Campbell, Bulls Falls Brewery Honor Flight Run co-founder.

Campbell said he's overwhelmed by this year's turn out.

"The first honor flight fun run was 450. The second annual was around 500. I just looked at the numbers and I think its 893, as of right now. So it is just awesome," said Campbell.

A record number of runners equals more money for the honor flight program.

"We've got a lot of veterans to transport to D.C., and see the memorials in their honor. We're organizing for World War II and Korea, and following that of course is my generation of veterans. The Vietnam era," said Campbell.

And Campbell said he thanks the mild spring weather for making the run such a success.

"Last two years, its was pretty cold, so this is just right. Not too hot, not too cold," said Campbell.

And while many raced to win.

"There's no question that a lot of these people are athletes, and they're going to run like crazy," said Campbell.

Others just ran it to lose. When asked what he hoped to accomplish by running this race, Peretz replied, "oh shed a little tons."
