Japan readies missile units ahead of NKorea launch

TOKYO (AP) -- Japan's defense minister has ordered land- and sea-based interceptor missile units to prepare for North Korea's rocket launch next month.

Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka on Tuesday said he has ordered destroyers and mobile missile launchers be readied for deployment to areas near the rocket's planned trajectory. The interceptors would be ready to shoot down any parts of the rocket that veer into Japan's airspace.

The "Unha-3" rocket is expected to fly over western Japan after it is launched from a pad on North Korea's west coast between April 14-16. That has raised concerns that a failed launch, or a falling stage of the rocket, could endanger Japanese lives or property.
