Doris L. Gerum, 80, Rothschild, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital after a long and courageous battle with diabetes and kidney disease.

Doris was born on August 9, 1931 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to the late Harry and Regina (Kardack) Boerke.  She moved to Wausau where she graduated from Wausau High School and was employed by Wausau Insurance Company.  On September 3, 1971 she married James Gerum and they had a hobby farm for many years, where they enjoyed hunting, playing cards and entertaining family and friends.  Doris loved her flower gardens, watching the hummingbirds come to her feeder, playing bingo and trips to the casino.  She was a member of a poker club and the Circle of Joy for many years.

Doris is survived by her husband, James; sister, Shirley Stafford; her children and step-children:  Susan Pospychalla, Debbie Wergin, Scott (Connie) Westberg, Rhonda (David) Lutzke, Mary (Ray) Kroll, Timothy (Melissa) Gerum and Beth (Frank) Bielewicz; grandchildren and step-grandchildren:  Casey Zoromski, Rebecca Schwede, Sara Jo Wergin, Paul William Wergin III, Adam Westberg, Emily Westberg, Maria Mostek, Vanessa Lutzke, Anna Lutzke, Heather Neldner, Jacob Gerum, Elise Gerum, Rachel Bielewicz, and Frankie Bielewicz; great-grandchildren:  Ella Schwede and Dominic Christopher Wergin. She is further survived by her very special "Guardian Angel" Phyllis Cooper and cousin Sally (Roger) Roth and beloved nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Joanne DeLap; brother-in-law Pat Stafford; beloved grandson Avery Westberg and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Brainard Funeral Home – Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial  Court, Weston.  The Rev. John Robert Alphonse of the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Abrego and the staff of Dialysis Center of Wausau who took excellent care of Doris for many years, and Dr. Ravi and the nursing staff at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital Comfort Unit.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 North Second Street, Wausau, WI 54403.
