Callista Gingrich, Rick Santorum make campaign stops in WI

WAUSAU (WAOW) --  With just days before the Wisconsin primary, presidential candidates are hitting the campaign trail.

The Wausau Chamber of Commerce hosted a campaign stop for Callista Gingrich, the wife of Republican presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich.

"This isn't about political parties. This is about bringing the people information so they can make a more informed decision," Karen Nerison, Executive Director of the Wausau Chamber of Commerce said.

But Mrs. Gingrich stayed away from many political issues, and did not take any questions from the media. She only briefly addressed her husband's campaign.

"We are in this together and believe what we are doing is in the best interest for the country. Our only opponent is Barack Obama, and we are committed to removing him from the White House," Callista Gingrich told a room of about 20 at the Entrepreneurial and Education center in Wausau.

Mrs. Gingrich's speech mainly focused on the value of our country. And for some, the lack of political jargon was well received.

"I am just interested to hear what she had to say, I'm not a supporter or non-supporter," John McAuley of Wausau said.

But, just Northeast of Madison, in Beaver Dam, the scene was a little different. Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum rallied a room full of supporters.

"It's not just about unemployment or the economy," Santorum said. "This is about who we are as Americans and what we stand for."

Santorum discussed his views on health care, nuclear weapons and the economy.

"I will fight for limited government, I will fight for lower taxes, fight for less regulations and stronger families," Santorum said.

Other presidential candidates, including Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul are scheduled to stop in Wisconsin sometime this week.

The primary is on April 3rd.
