Thursday Sports Report - 03/29/12

(WAOW) - Mother nature may have turned the page on winter two weeks ago, but it's never officially spring until the sports world moves outdoors. That happens this week as spring sports get under way all over the area.

Nekoosa and Marathon opened up the baseball season Thursday in Nekoosa.

The Red Raiders got a two-RBI base hit from Isaac Barber in the 5th inning to help Marathon to a 4-1 win.

In Wisconsin Rapids, the Raiders scored early and often, beating Adams-Friendship 12-3 in the season opener for both teams.

Merrill held its last indoor track meet before heading outside next week.

The host Blue Jays came away with the team title, while Antigo was second.
