Locals hope lottery luck strikes twice in Marshfield
MARSHFIELD (WAOW)--The Mega Millions lottery reached a record high $640 million dollars today. Many people are testing their luck at Weiler's Convenience Store in Marshfield, where a million dollar ticket was sold last month.
The Mega Millions jackpot has many people scrambling to buy a ticket, hoping luck strikes twice in Marshfield.
"We've actually had to get other employees in here to help out," Weiler's manager Amanda Vanderhoof said.
People are trying to cash in, like one man did a month ago, winning one million dollars. Now that Mega Millions has reached more than half a billion dollars, Weiler's is seeing more customers than ever.
"Our tickets for Mega Millions have been higher than the other two stores and we honestly think it's from selling that ticket here, the one million dollar winner," Vanderhoof said.
The large jackpot has some people throwing their bucks in, even though they don't usually play. Martha Foy says she hopes her Irish heritage will bring her the luck she needs.
"I never play the lottery. Never. But my sisters are arriving from Ireland today and I'm hoping they'll bring the luck of the Irish with them and we'll win big bucks," Foy said.
Foy says she knows exactly what she would do if she won, saying, "I'm hoping to spend that on a trip to Ireland this summer."
She says her sister may just be her four leaf clover.
"She's extremely lucky and last time she was in Marshfield at a gas station, she won money. So I'm hoping she'll repeat the same," Foy says.
You can buy tickets until 9 PM. The drawing is at 10.
