Concealed-carry law increases small handgun sales

Small handgun sales are up, and vendors at the Antigo Gun Show are thanking the new concealed carry law.

"Gun sales have tripled in the last couple of months," said Thomas Hardel, Antigo Gun Show vendor.

The desire for small handguns is rising fast. Small handgun vendors said the trend is due to the concealed carry law.

"Very big, a law going through like that everybody's trying to get a hold of small handguns for self-protection," said Scott Giebel, a small handgun vendor from Appleton.

The demand for small handguns is up, but many gun wholesalers have a difficult time delivering the supply.

"The customers want it, the dealers are trying to get a hold of it to give it to the customer, the wholesalers can't keep up with the manufacturers sometimes," said Giebel.

"Every Monday when we call in we might have to call fifteen or sixteen distributors trying to find guns to restock what's in our cases, and that's kind of hard to do," said Hardel.

The demand is so high, vendors said many customers have to wait before picking up their handgun.

"I have a lot of people coming in to pick up the handguns a couple days later," said Giebel.

Leroy Miller is one of those customers, but he says he is willing to put up with the wait.

"In today's society, you know, to have protection," said Leroy Miller.

He just got his concealed-carry permit not too long ago, and he said having a gun puts him at ease knowing the law is on his side.

Organizers said more than 1000 people have attended the gun show in Antigo. The gun show wraps up tomorrow.
