Felix J. Pawelski, 81, of Stevens Point, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
He was born on May 18, 1930, to the late Lawrence and Antionette (Kwasnik) Pawelski at home, in the town of Dewey, and attended the Liberty Bell School, then obtained his GED through his military service.
Felix served in the U.S. Army, in Germany, with Company A 705th Ordnance Battalion 5th Infantry Division. He was inducted on April 21, 1953, and honorably discharged on April 9, 1955.
His marriage to Helen "Dolly" Zabroski took place on Aug. 3, 1957, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point. The couple settled in the town of Dewey, then built a home and moved to Stevens Point in 1968.
Felix worked at Vetter Manufacturing and Mosinee Papers and then retired as a pulp mill supervisor in May of 1993, after 25 years with Consolidated Papers-River Division.
He had a passion for big game hunting, especially Wisconsin white tail and Canadian moose; and he was an accomplished self-taught mechanic and skilled welder who also enjoyed playing his concertina and working the daily crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dolly; daughters, Justine Pawelski and Maxine (Patrick) Hogan both of Stevens Point, and Christine (Kenneth) Kluck of Rosholt; sons, David (Karen) of Stevens Point, and Gregory (Sandra) of Rudolph; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Pawelski of Stevens Point, and Sr. Regine Pawelski of Sinsinawa, Wisc.; brother, Theodore (Agnes) Pawelski on the family farm; brother-in-law, Ronald (Nancy) Zabroski of Oconto Falls; also, seven nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Felix was preceded in death by his father-and-mother-in-law, Benedict and Helen (Miller) Zabroski; and granddaughter, Ashley Ann Kluck
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time for Mass.
