(WAOW) - Even though it's just the start of the high school baseball season for many area teams, that doesn't mean the matchups aren't significant.
In Amherst, the ninth-ranked Falcons welcomed fifth-ranked Pacelli to town. Amherst ended the Cardinals season in the sectional semifinals a year ago.
Monday, the Falcons scored their first seven runs on just one hit, taking advantage of some shaky Pacelli pitching and they held on to win 9-6.
Division four, top-ranked Rosholt opened the season against Menominee Indian. The Hornets dispatched the Eagles in five innings, 10-0.
On the softball field, Tigerton showed its still a force to reckon with in division four, thanks in large part to the Ortner sisters.
Erin Ortner threw a perfect game, while sister Emily added two home runs and the Tigers beat Port Edwards 14-0.
