Mexico conservative party pledges campaign changes

Posted:

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- A top official of Mexico's conservative National Action Party says changes are planned for the campaign of presidential candidate Josefina Vazquez Mota, following a series of missteps.

Party leader Gustavo Madero says "there will be adjustments" in the campaign.

President Felipe Calderon's party is the first major group in Mexico to run a woman for the presidency.

But the campaign has been marked by poor logistics, late-starting events, and a dizzy spell that interrupted one of her speeches. Vazquez Mota is running second in opinion polls for the July 1 election behind Enrique Pena Nieto of the old ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party.

Madero said Wednesday there are no plans to change campaign coordinator Roberto Gil.
