WAUSAU (WAOW)--Amy Zondlo is the April Jefferson Award Winner. Amy is the founder of The Jeanie Marie Fund. She and her mother started the organization back in 2008 after her mother, Jeanie Marie, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.
Their efforts started out with a "Courage Calendar" featuring photos of people with cancer and their families. The idea was to draw awareness to the disease and the impact it has.
Amy's mother died from her cancer in 2011. But Amy continues her legacy. The Jeanie Marie fund recently donated money to the Ronald McDonald House in Marshfield, to provide a place to stay for families who have a loved one who is hospitalized.
In May, there is another big fundraiser scheduled. A Bone Marrow Donor Drive will take place at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Weston. It will run from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on May 11 and 8 a.m. -Noon on May 12.
