WAUSAU (WAOW)--About 1600 people took advantage of free tax preparation offered by AARP. The organization held a final session for this tax season in Wausau (Wednesday, April 11) at the UW Extension office on River Drive.
Local organizer, Bill Neyens says, the project saw an increase in people using the services, "We had about 1600 people use the services. That is up several hundred over the past couple of years. People are feeling the pinch of the economy. Using this free service can save them several hundred dollars, which adds up."
Dawn Mateo is one of the people who took advantage of the help and she says she's glad she did, "It was quick, they were friendly and efficient. I would recommend it to anyone."
Volunteers help people by looking over their tax information and helping them file it electronically. The tax deadline is April 17.
